A legally binding international treaty on climate change aiming to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit the increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius to avoid more severe climate change impacts including more frequent and sev ere, droughts, heatwaves and storms.
In January 2026 there were 194 Parties to the Agreement who submit National Climate Action Plans (known as Nationally Determined Contributions). Each successive NDC is meant to reflect an increasing level of ambition in their 2030 targets compared to the previous version.
