We cannot change enough about ourselves to solve our identity issues: We have to discover our benefits as citizens of heaven.

When you travel internationally, going through customs can be a pain. You are expected to prove your citizenship, and certain rights and privileges come with your citizenship. The same is true of your citizenship in heaven when you choose to follow Jesus. After hundreds of rules and commandments could not solve our issues as humans, Jesus came to earth and lived a perfect life in our place, creating a new kind of human existence that could solve our identity issues. When we embrace the reality of Jesus' victory over sin, we are not bound to sin and its rules any longer. Those issues lie dead on the cross where Jesus was crucified,
