Since their TV introduction in 2007, and now on Netflix, it is very likely that you have come across the four elderly Emirati women that make up the cast of one of the region’s most popular animated series, FREEJ. The four intrepid grannies, whose lives we follow as they try to navigate a modern Dubai, are Mohammed’s brainchild which he developed while a student in Boston, Massachusetts over 20 years ago. He has since created 70 episodes of their adventures.
