#2 Retooling the Workforce

How can we meet this massive retooling necessity for the existing “human” workforce? Education is the key. The speed of change has too often made education a lagging indicator of demand. It has been plagued by ideologies, cultural morays, and parochial thinking that have led to myopic strategies even in the midst of an information explosion. The demographics of globalization indicate that the fastest growing segment of the population in a significant portion of the world is youth. This fact along begins to frame an alarming trend of inequity in educational access. It is estimated that 263 million children and young people are not in school with most being in underdeveloped and low to moderate - income countries. Other estimates report that 825 million young people will not have the basic literacy, numeracy, and digital skills to compete for the jobs of 2030.
