Elected Lord Mayor of Cork following the death by hunger-strike of Terrance MacSwiney in Brixton Prison, Donla Og was Cork’s third Sinn Fein Lord mayor in 1920 following MacSwiney and Tomás Mac Curtain, assassinated by the RIC at his home in Blackpool. We hear about the politics that were going on during the Civil war as side from the war of independence. After the ‘Burning of Cork’ he fled to America to spread the word of the Irish Republican movement. In 1924 he suffered an embarrassing election defeat finishing last out of the 7 candidates up for election.
