Ward is the Associate Vice President Corporate Director of Risk Control at UFG Insurance. In the commercial property and casualty industry, he’s an expert in worker-s compensation, general liability, property insurance, and risk control management.

* How safety professionals can help people because they want to (compared to helping people because regulations say they have to).  

* When safety professionals are trying to change the behaviors of workers, they might feel uneasy or agitated. To help them, be sure to share with them the “why’s.” In short, help people know the answer to: “Why should I care?”  

* When you’re average, there’s no risk. But if you want to be great, you’ll have to risk getting out of your comfort zone. To take your company to the next level, you’re going to have to risk being great.  

* The importance of seeking help with your own knowledge gaps. In Ward’s own words: “For me [it’s important to] acknowledge what I don't know. And then to allow others to coach me.”
