Obsidian Entertainment has officially confirmed that its fantasy role-playing game Avowed is heading to the PlayStation 5 on February 17, 2026. This launch marks the first anniversary of the game, which originally debuted on PC and Xbox Series X/S on February 18, 2025. The arrival on the new platform is not just a standard port but coincides with a major Anniversary Update that brings a host of new features and refinements to all players. One of the most significant changes included in this version is the expansion of character creation options. While the original release limited players to certain choices, the update introduces three new playable species: the large and scaly Aumaua, the small and furry Orlan, and the broad-shouldered Dwarves. This adds a new layer of diversity to the role-playing experience. Additionally, players will now be able to change their character's appearance in the overworld after the initial creation process. The Anniversary Update also introduces several highly requested features. A New Game Plus mode will finally be available, allowing fans to replay the adventure with their existing progress. A new Photo Mode has also been added, enabling players to capture the vibrant, colorful environments of the game. On the gameplay side, the Ranger and Fighter skill trees have been expanded and reworked to offer better combat variety, and a new weapon type has been introduced to further customize the player's build.Avowed has been described as a delightful alternative for fans waiting for the next entry in the Elder Scrolls series. While some critics noted that the game has a slightly dated feel, it has been widely praised for its earnest approach to fantasy, its playful mechanics, and a world full of wide-eyed wonder. The story is considered well-written, and the game features beautiful, interesting locations that offer tens of hours of exploration without becoming repetitive.PlayStation 5 players will benefit from a year's worth of technical improvements and incidental updates that have already been applied to the PC and Xbox versions. These include bug fixes, gear balancing, and the optimizations found in the 1.5 update, which previously brought Steam Deck verification to the game. For those who already own the game on existing platforms, all the new content and upgrades from the Anniversary Update will be provided as a free download. Pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 version are already live, offering a fresh audience the chance to experience Obsidian’s latest flagship RPG. Hosted on Acast.
