Even before being old enough to learn all the alphabets in the Malayalam aksharamala, Pratheesh began learning the lyrics of popular songs by heart. Right from that age he harboured dreams of becoming a popular lyricist. In order to hone his skills he would try writing different lyrics to the tune of already popular songs. RJ Pratheesh narrates an incident from his childhood when he tried to take part in a poetry writing contest held as part of Kerala Piravi celebrations that ended up in an unexpected climax.
