Azevedo's Bribery Case: Next Court Date Set

San Leandro Councilmember Ken Azevedo appeared in court on bribery charges, allowed to remain free on a $25,000 unsecured bond. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted. Azevedo is accused of accepting a $2,000 cash bribe from unnamed co-conspirators. The case is connected to indictments of former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, her partner Andre Jones, and David and Andy Duong of California Waste Solutions. Azevedo allegedly set up a company and bank account in his wifes name to receive payments from a housing company. Federal prosecutors suggest a resolution in Azevedos case may be near.
