B005: Simple Dinnertime Ritual to Raise Emotionally Intelligent Kids

Listen Later

Running short on time? Check out my "Thought of the Day" mini-episodes, where I tackle big thoughts in simple, short spurts to spin you in the right direction. (try saying that 5 times fast)Today's SUPER thought of the day is this:

What can you do to help guide your children (simply) towards building their own Emotional Intelligence while they are still little?

Most of the limiting beliefs that hold people back from achieving greatness can be traced to NEGATIVE, deep-rooted stories we bought in to at a very early age.

Things like…

I'm not very smart.

I'm not creative.

I could never do that or

I don't deserve that.

It's all lies, vicious lies!

Here is a Simple Dinnertime Ritual that has brought my family closer together and helped our children grow into their own emotional intelligence over time.

  • At the dinner table, we like to ask 3 questions:
    • What was the best thing that happened to you today?
    • What was the worst thing that happened?
    • ...And the most important question, what's one thing you failed gloriously at, but tried nonetheless?

Pause.

Let your child answer in their own timing. Give them space to think and formulate the words.

Most importantly, don't answer the question for them. When kids are given permission to talk about their failures and blunders in such a safe environment, it sets them up for seeing failure as no big deal. It's a thing that happens in life where you get to LEARN SOMETHING NEW.

Remember, YOU are their ULTIMATE role model for Emotional Intelligence and they are always watching and learning from you.
