Chatham Baroque celebrate Bach's birthday next weekend with "Bach's Sublime Chamber Music," featuring mostly Bach but also his contemporaries Telemann and Sylvius Leopold Weiss. QED's Anna Singer spoke with Chatham Baroque members Scott Pauley and Patricia Halverson live on the QED Afternoon Show about the program.
Scott and Patty walk Anna through the pieces, which include sonatas for the full group and breakaway pieces for smaller ensembles. Selections from the program are Bach's Trio Sonata in G Major and Partita No. 3 in E Major for solo violin, Telemann's Paris Quartet No. 1 in D Major, and Weiss's Sonata 14 in G Major for flute and lute. Scott tells the story of Weiss's missing flute part, which was reconstructed by Canadian lutanist Michel Cardin. Chatham Baroque's core trio will be joined by Charles Brink on baroque flute and Justin Wallace on harpsichord.
Celebrate Bach's birthday with Chatham Baroque on Friday, March 27th at 7:30pm at the Teutonia Männerchor, and on Saturday, March 28th and Sunday, March 29th at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's Hicks Memorial Chapel. Saturday's concert is at 7:30pm and the Sunday performance is at 2:30pm. More information and tickets can be found on Chatham Baroque's website.
