Back to Basics:         Discerning Spiritual Message                       1 John 4:1-6

 

·        The Egyptian Magicians could perform some of the deeds that God used to confirm              his authenticity. Ex. 7:20-22

·        The early church had this problem as well: Acts 8:9-10

 

Two Keys to Discerning Spiritual Messages:

I.          The Content of the Teaching

·        Remember the tests of Life: 

          1.      Doctrinal

          2.      Moral

          3.      Social

 

·        Jesus is both Human and divine: John 1:1, 14 

·        The antichrist is coming: 2Thes 2:3

·        His spirit is already here: 1 John 2:18

 

 

 

II.        The Character of the Audience

 

·        We are at odds with the World System: 1 Cor. 1:18

·        We are the Victors: Rom. 8:37-39

·        God lives within us 1 John 3:24

·        We have the “anointing” 1 John 2:20

·        The World system is passing away: 1 John 2:17

 

·        The sheep do not recognize a strangers voice: John 10:4-5 

·        We are the people of the Word: 2 Tim 3:16-17

·        We need to be like the Bereans’: Acts 17:11
