                          Love God Instead the World
                                     1 John 2:15-17

                   Define “World.”

                 1.    He is not referring to people.

·                      God so loved the World…John 3:16

 

                2.   He is not referring to nature.

·                   “The earth is the LORD’s and everything in it  Ps.24:1

·                     Creation is proof of God’s existence: Rom 1:20

·                     Creation speaks to God’s greatness: Psalm 19:1

 

·            So, what does he mean by “the World"?

                  3.   The World’s System is the subject.

Two Reasons why we must love God Instead of the world:

I.     The Incompatibility of the World’s Standard

               The Trinity of Evil:

               1   Lust of the Flesh: 

·                    It started in the Garden  Gen. 3:6

              2   Lust of the eyes:  Gen. 3:6: 

·                    David’s watches Bathsheba bath:  2 Sam. 11:2

                     We must discipline ourselves: Job 31:1

             
              3.  Pride of Life: Gen. 3:6

·                    I can be like God:  Gen 3:5

 

II.       The Transience of the World

·        The parable of the rich fool: Luke 12:16-21

·        Learn to be content in Christ: Phil. 4:11-13

·        God is not the God of the dead but the living: Mt. 22:32
