The Gifts of God
1 John 2:12-14
Intro: Words of affirmation, Quality time, Giving gifts, Acts of service, Physical touch.

Three Gifts:
1. Forgiveness of Sins
· Forgiveness: 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins…
· Forgiveness is the heart of the message: Luke 24:45-47
· Repentance is our part to play: Acts 2:38
· Salvation is found in no one else…Acts 4:12
· We can trust God to do what He says. Ps. 20:7
2. Relationship with the Eternal Father
· What do they know? Eternal God. In the beginning was the Word… John 1:1
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 1 John 1:1
· We know Him as our Father; we are his children: Rom 8:15-17
· Part of the benefit is suffering: 2 Tim 3:12
3. Power to Overcome
· The Christian life is more than fellowship it is about fighting the enemy: 1 Pet 5:8,9
· At war with our sin nature: Rom 7:15
Where does the strength come from?
· They are strong because of our Hope: Isaiah 40:31
· The Sword of the Spirit: Eph. 6:17
· It is our number one defense: "The Word of Life."
· Jesus used the Word: Mt. 4:5-7
Conclusion: These gifts were promised to us: Jer.31:33,34
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
