Back to Basics: The Regression of John, Chapter 3

In Chapter Three, Johnny’s world takes a decisive turn. After weeks of damp underwear, close calls, and pretending he didn’t need help, Cal finally confronts him with the truth: the “adult clothes,” the jeans, the boxers, they’re only getting in the way. Johnny is wearing diapers full-time now, and the people caring for him need quick, easy access to keep him clean and dry.

Cal introduces a new wardrobe meant for someone who needs frequent checks and changes: a soft blue onesie and snapped overalls. And for the first time, Johnny begins to accept that these clothes, and the care that comes with them, might actually be what he needs.

This chapter marks the moment Johnny stops pretending… and starts slipping fully into the role Cal and Dad are gently guiding him toward.
