1 John 1:5-2:2

·        By doing I mean obeying:  Mt. 28:19-20

·        Our obedience shines forth… Mt. 5:14-16

   Five Keys to Walking in the Light:

1.            Recognize the Holiness of God

·        John learn this from Jesus: John 1:4

·        The exact representation of the father: Heb 1:3

       The use of light does two things:

            1)   Light Illuminates:  John 3:19-21

·                  Only God is good: Mark 10:18

·                  No one Righteous, Understanding or Seeking: Rom 3:10-11

            2)     Light Guides:  Psalm 119:105

·        We will take on the nature of the God we worship: Lev 19:2

·        God is not like us: Isaiah 55:8-9

 

2.            Live-out the Truth – Sincerity, Honesty, transparency!

·        Faith without deeds is useless Jam 2:20 

·        “Teach them to obey everything…Mt. 28ff."

·        Light has no fellowship with darkness:  2 Cor 6:14

 

3.           Fellowship with other Christians

·        False teacher refused to fellowship: 1 John 2:19

 

4.         Confront the Problem of Sin V-8ff.

            Two errors:

           1) Denial of our sin nature

·        There is a battle ragging: Rom. 7:14-25

           2) Denial of Sinful Actions

 

5.         Confess Your Sins: From denial to admission   

           God’s response to confessed sin:

          a)      He Faithful and Just   2 Tim. 2:13

·        God is faithful to his word: Jer. 31:34

          b)      He Forgives and purifies

          c)   He  Provides an Advocate  

·                    He will deal with that in 1 Jn. 3:6ff.

                     He atoned for the sin of the whole world. Jn. 3:16
