But here’s the irony: while in Britain, Poilievre visited Runnymede, the historic site where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215, establishing the revolutionary principle that no ruler is above the law.

That principle eventually shaped the Westminster system, parliamentary democracy, and the very political traditions Canada inherited.

So when critics say acknowledging Canada’s problems is somehow “anti-Canadian,” they ignore the fact that criticism of government power is one of the oldest democratic traditions in the English-speaking world.
