Today's episode is a very special one for the Podcast, not only does it mark our 6th Season (hard to believe!), but we were also able to welcome on a very special guest - Former NBA player, and Los Angeles native, ***DARWIN COOK***!

Darwin grew up in LA, attended Crenshaw High School, and then played all 4 years at the University of Portland, where he helped lead a significant & immediate turn-around for the program.

From there, he was the first pick of the 4th Round of the 1980 NBA Draft, and played for four franchises from 1980-89. He also played overseas, where he led Italian Serie A1 franchise Scavolini Pesaro to their first and second Championships (and to date, their only Titles).

An energetic defender, known for his high basketball IQ and ability to lockdown on the defensive end, as well as create scoring opportunities for his teammates, the "Sparkplug" finished his NBA career with over 1,000 career steals! And played against some of the greatest players in NBA history.

Welcome back all to the BALLS AND BEARDS PODCAST presented by Fat Boys Tacos!! It's been a minute, but the fellas are back with that armchair analysis you crave with a complete recap and breakdown of what was indeed a WILD Wild Card Weekend in the NFL.

The fellas start in Carolina where the Panthers were the largest home underdog in NFL playoff history (+10.5), but nonetheless the home team came to play and gave the Rams all they could handle. A late TD pass from QB Matthew Stafford with just 0:38 left led LA to a thrilling 34-31 victory in the playoff opener. Which also led to a spirited debate about how the NFL does their playoff seeding, etc.

Next up, we go to Philly where the seemingly impossibly under-manned 49ers took out the defending Champs, 23-19 in a game that featured even more injuries for San Fran, and some sidelines fireworks between Eagles HC Nick Sirianni and star WR AJ Brown. Brown ended up with a couple of key drops in the game. Who's to blame for the fizzle out in Philly? Justin has plenty of answers and suggestions for the Eagles heading into next season.

Then it's onto Chris's Packers & their historic collapse against arch-rivals the Chicago Bears on Saturday night. Green Bay dominated the first half and raced out to a 21-3 halftime lead, but the second half completely flipped the script as Chicago took advantage of a suddenly sluggish & inept Packers offense to start the 2nd half. GB missed several key kicks in the game as well, and it all added up to magical rally for the Bears. The fellas give you their take and Chris offers up his take on whether he believes LaFleur is the longterm answer.

Then it's onto the AFC where the Bills and upstart Jaguars delivered one heck of performance, but of course, it was the reigning MVP in Josh Allen that got the last laugh in a thrilling 24-20 Buffalo victory. Jacksonville has laid the foundation for the future. Now, can the Bills continue this run all the way to the Super Bowl? The fellas discuss.

Oh yea, and the Patriots defeated the Chargers in a yawn... 16-3 snoozer. Can New England continue their incredible one-season turnaround - the boys have answers!

Lastly, it's hard to believe, but we are pretty much right in the middle of the NBA season, and the boys check-in to see what is going on in the world of the NBA. There are some pleasant surprises (Pistons, Spurs, Raptors) some not-so pleasant surprises (Chris's Bucks, Justin's Mavs), and the dominant defending Champion Thunder looking, well, dominant.

Plus the Western Conference looks stacked once again with last year's defending Champs, OKC Thunder looking like they are on a mission to start the season (7-0). Wemby for MVP? The Spurs legit? Problems already in Memphis - Trae Young sidelined a month, plus Mikee's Lakers (5-2) & Chris's Bucks (5-2) are both off to solid starts, respectively. After discussing the Thunder getting it done in a thrilling 7-game series against the upstart Pacers, & bringing home the city's first Title since the move to OKC, the boys talk NBA Draft where the least surprising pick ever occurred at the top as Justin's Mavs took Cooper Flagg #1 overall. There were some surprises however, and the boys were not a fan of the #5 overall pick - don't miss what the fellas had to say about the draft.

Then it's onto the Kevin Durant trade - the Rockets made a move to break up their young core a bit that had managed to shoot up to the #2 seed in the West this past season. Will KD ease in and help Houston get to the Finals, or was this a bad move that might have just erased the giant leaps taken this past season?

Plus the boys discuss the incredible series between the Nuggets & Clippers and of course the surprising early exits of both Chris's Bucks & Mikee's Lakers in just 5 games to the Pacers & T-Wolves, respectively. What went wrong for both?
