The turning point occurred when the military refused to fire on unarmed civilians, leading to Hasina's flight on August 5, 2024, and the formation of an interim government under Dr. Muhammad Yunus. While some, like Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, have proposed a U.S.-engineered regime change, evidence suggests it was a homegrown movement, sharing characteristics with other grassroots revolutions like the People Power Revolution in the Philippines, the Arab Spring, and Sri Lanka’s 2022 protests.
