The baptism of the Holy Spirit is often misunderstood by believers who don't recognize the difference between being born of the Spirit and being filled with the Spirit. Jesus himself was born of the Spirit in Mary's womb, yet he still had to wait 30 years to be filled with the Spirit before beginning his ministry. Being born of the Spirit happens at salvation when we become new creations, while being filled with the Spirit is a separate experience where Jesus immerses us into the Holy Spirit. The word baptism means complete immersion, not just a drop or partial experience. Rather than seeking the Spirit primarily for his gifts and manifestations, we should pursue relationship with him, spending time in fellowship and allowing him to reveal the deeper things of God.
