The first of two very special editions in honor of ABC News journalist Barbara Walters. This show looks back at her career and it showcases her fairness. She covered countless entertainers, sports figures, and leaders at home and abroad. Some of them incredibly controversial. She treated all of them with remarkable fairness even a few who were routinely treated horribly unfairly by her colleagues.
Two that come to mind immediately were Richard Nixon and Donald Trump.
We will look back at examples of her time covering them and a list of other Presidential figures. Plus we will see her rise to network anchor at ABC News, that was nearly derailed by an angry collogue and fellow anchor Harry Reasoner. In the end, she overcame it, shattering the glass ceiling for women in journalism, and ended up having had one of the great careers in the history of television.
She was an icon, and one of, if not certainly, my favorite journalist of all time.
