Barbecue Bliss and Pollen Woes in Apex's Peak City Pig Fest

Listen Later

Apex, North Carolina is buzzing with activity this weekend, and there’s plenty to share from the last 24 hours!

The much-loved Peak City Pig Fest wrapped up yesterday in downtown Apex, celebrating 11 years of barbecue bliss. Held at the Town Hall parking lot this year, the festival featured vendor booths, a beer garden, live music, and mouthwatering BBQ. A highlight was the annual rib-eating contest between the Apex Police Department and Fire Department, which drew cheers from the crowd. This year, the festival added BBQ technique classes and a VIP BBQ Experience for a taste of something new. Despite limited parking due to construction, attendees found it easy to get around with Go Apex Bus Service and nearby on-street options. The event was a success, raising funds for local and international charities.

Yesterday’s weather was perfect for outdoor fun, with a high of 73°F under mostly clear skies. Today, April 13, temperatures are expected to reach 63°F with a mix of sun and clouds, making it a pleasant spring day to explore Apex.

For allergy sufferers, it’s been a tough few days. The pollen count for trees, particularly pine, oak, and sweet gum, remains high at 158 grains per cubic meter. Grass and weed pollen levels, however, are low. Be sure to take precautions if you’re sensitive to tree pollen!

Air quality in Apex is currently in the “Good” range, but it may slip to a low “Moderate” level later today due to elevated fine particulates and ozone levels. Sensitive groups should take extra care, especially during outdoor activities.

In high school sports, Apex High School’s baseball team faced a tough loss to Cary High in yesterday’s game, ending with a close score of 5-4. Meanwhile, Apex Friendship High’s women’s soccer team triumphed over Holly Springs 3-1, keeping their season’s momentum strong.

As the weekend winds down, Apex residents can enjoy the mild weather today before heading into a week with warmer temperatures and sunnier days. Whether you’re attending church, enjoying brunch, or relaxing at home, it’s another great spring day in Peak City!
