"God Breathed and Profitable" is our early discipleship course.
Here’s a question for you: In your church what do you do with people who have just committed to Christ and been baptised? What do you do with them next?
I believe this is a tremendously important question. Is there something that we should be teaching newly baptised believers which will establish and settle them in their new life with Jesus? My fear is that in many churches there is no strategy for the initial strengthening of new believers after they’ve been baptised. We normally just tell them to join a home group and keep coming to church.
My main conviction on this point is that the very first thing we must do with new, baptised believers is to teach them the doctrine of Scripture. In other words, we must establish in them a reverence and commitment to the Bible, and get them reading it for themselves.
“As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,” (1 Peter 2:2)
It is “the pure milk of the Word” which matures baby Christians and so we need to settle their respect and appreciation for the Bible immediately. We need to get new Christians reading and seeking God in the Scriptures themselves.
And that is exactly what our 10-week small-group video course entitled “God Breathed and Profitable” is designed to do. It is a phenomenal course, and by the grace of God it has proven to be incredibly effective for getting believers excited about Scripture and reading their Bible’s regularly.
The other thing this 10-week course does is to establish a discipline of weekly “cell/home group” attendance in our newly baptised believers.
