Barry Livingston: Discussing His Days as Ernie Douglas from My Three Sons and Beyond! (Season 01 Ep. #8)

Listen Later

Barry Livingston joins me to talk about his illustrious and lengthy career working alongside some of biggest names in the business. Elvis, William Frawley, Paul Newman, and Jerry Lewis are just a few of the folks we discuss in this interview. To this day Barry is still pumping out high-quality performances. Case in point his role in the new Mixed Martial Arts Docudrama "Notorious Nick".
It's the story of Nick Newell, young man who was born with one arm and a big dream.  Based on the true story Nick Newell and how he overcome his disability and a world of naysayers, to win an MMA championship in 2012.
Heading the cast is Cody Christian (Teen Wolf, Mom, All American on the CW) as Nick Newell; Elisabeth Rohm (Law & Order) as Nick's mom; Kevin Pollak (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Nick's promoter: And starring iconic veteran actor, Barry Livingston (My Three Sons, Mad Men, The Social Network) as Nick's high school coach and MMA trainer.
A true Hollywood survivor, Barry Livingston is one of the former child stars who turned early success into a lifelong career. Perhaps best recognized from his 8 years on the 12 year hit series “My Three Sons” and most recently for his roles on Mad Men or The Social Network, Barry Livingston has wisely managed to re-invent himself over the years. In the now iconic role of Ernie Douglas, he practically defined the prototype of the word nerd (buck teeth, horn-rimmed glasses and all), to survive the stereotypes, the dangers of sex, depression and drugs that seem to plague former child stars to become one of Hollywood's most respected, working actors and the quintessential family man.
Other work includes early hits such as Here's Lucy, Ozzie & Harriett, as well as contemporary series including Two and Half Men, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Monk, Big Love, Crossing Jordan, Will and Grace, the West Wing, Warner Brothers Argo (directed by and starring Ben Affleck), the highly rated series, Castle.  In addition, appeared in the ABC sitcom, Suburgatory, and the Hallmark Channel movie, Loves' Christmas Journey, as well as the Killer Role (literally) in Hostel 3. His memoirs (The Importance of Being Ernie/) appeared on many best-sellers lists including Amazon.
