In this episode of Batje’s Take, I reflect on my recent conversation with Precious Nyarambi and what it truly means to talk about women’s empowerment beyond the language, themes, and moments like Women’s Month.
We often celebrate progress and highlight inspiring stories and those are important. But if we are to move beyond conversation and into impact, we have to look at the realities on the ground.
In this reflection, I explore:
• The structural barriers women continue to face in entrepreneurship
• Why empowerment must be holistic — not just about access, but also readiness, mindset, and opportunity
• The role of the ecosystem and why we cannot focus only on the individual
• How these same patterns show up in corporate careers, including the “broken rung” that limits women’s progression into leadership
• The question we should all be asking: are these conversations translating into real change?
This is a pause not just to reflect, but to challenge how we think about empowerment, leadership, and impact.
