In this field and similar helper fields, We all battle Compassion Fatigue in the day to day of our work. Our work is in intimate settings such as homes, small offices or treatment rooms and in most cases require hand to hand combat against carrying everyone’s stuff.
Things that contribute to compassion fatigue and burnout is the constant listening to the tribulations of others and witnessing emotional situations is the nature of the job –it is important to be aware of the risk for burnout and to have guidance for dealing with fatigue. Working long hours, feelings of unappreciation, and limited resources can take a toll on those in the helping profession. Compassion Fatigue creates a constant tension and preoccupation with individual and collective trauma of clients.
