This week Ben Gutteridge, Brewin Head of Fund Research, interviews the new management team of the Newton Global Higher Income. Given the strict investment process, and the team’s rather gloomy take on the world, quickly becomes clear that little has changed in the fund, despite the recent lead manager departure. Up for discussion are the failings of central bank policy, the sectors of the economy crippled by overcapacity, and where debt burdens are most acute. On a more constructive note, the managers are keen to highlight the areas of the market that still represent good long term money making opportunities – which typically arise from the more defensive sources.
