Bay Native Circle – April 6, 2005

Listen Later

The early history of this country is informed by the presence of indigenous

natives, African slaves and European colonizers. The first man killed by
the British in the American Revolution, Crispus Attucks, was a descendant of
all three. Since colonial times, African Americans and American Indians
have interacted and intermarried. Hosts Ras K’dee and Janeen Antoine
explore this multiiracial history and experience in interviews with SFSU
professor and author Andrew Jolivette on his upcoming book on Black Indians,
and singer /songwriter Tchiya Amet, whose musical talents are illustrated in
pieces from her cd titled “Black Turtle Island.” Plus the Bay Area Indian
Calendar.
