I never expected to find myself dealing with a psychogenic seizure, yet here I am, sharing my deeply personal and vulnerable story in hopes of providing support and comfort to those going through similar experiences.
From the initial traumatic event to the side effects of medication, making lifestyle changes like quitting smoking and drinking, researching the stress response, and seeking trauma therapy, I take you on a journey through my healing process.
Along the way, I reflect on how growing up with chronic adverse experiences of violence and abuse may have contributed to these seizures, and how important it is to normalize humanity and open the conversation around such challenges.
Moreover, the importance of practicing nervous system hygiene cannot be overstated.
Ensuring our nervous systems function as intended is crucial for our overall well-being. When we find ourselves in a threat response, our brain and body will react in whatever way seems helpful at the time.
By learning how to access our thinking brain and press pause, we can better cope with difficult situations. So join me in this episode as I emphasize the need to prioritize your nervous system hygiene and encourage you to have a little more compassion for yourself and others.
