BCCI invites top astrologers to mentor Indian team to win toss

Listen Later

The BCCI and the Indian team have decided that they have to take major corrective action after failing to qualify for the semifinals at the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup despite entering the tournaments as favourites. One of the main reasons attributed to the loss was the fact that the Indian team lost all but one of their tosses so far in the tournament immediately putting the team in the backseat.

Skipper Virat Kohli has been very unlucky with the toss ever since he took over and his horrendous form carried forward into this tournament as well. Losing the toss in the initial 2 games ensured that India had to play both the games against Pakistan and New Zealand at a disadvantage. The dew factor in the second innings made the game feel like two different conditions in both halves with a strong bias against the team batting first.

Pakistan beat India for the first time in 12 matches in the World Cup and that too with a comprehensive 10 wicket victory. This was the first time India ever lost a T20 match by 10 wickets. This was followed by an 8 wicket loss to New Zealand with literally put India’s qualification for the semifinal at the mercy of the other teams in the group.

Unfortunately, despite comprehensive wins against Afghanistan and Scotland, the Indian team did not qualify for the semifinal even with a match to spare as New Zealand and Pakistan cruised into the semis with wins of their own.

The famed Indian batting lineup of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, K L Rahul, Rishabh Pant and others failed to shine against quality opposition. The otherwise clinical bowling lineup of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvaneswar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja managed to just pick 2 wickets from the initial 2 matches.

Many theories have been put forward for the poor performance of the team in the marquee tournament of the year. This included workload management issues like coming off the IPL directly into the tournament and bubble fatigue to team selection issues like not playing your best spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and changing the batting order against New Zealand.

However, our sources at the BCCI have told us that they have identified what the core issue for these losses was and have already taken steps to address it.

“We lost the matches because we cannot seem to win the toss, ” she told us. “The match starts at the toss. It decides what the strategy and the game plan is. If we cant win the toss, we have to play according to the other teams’ plan. This is why we completely lost the plot against Pakistan and New Zealand.”

She also told us that to help us win the toss, the BCCI is on the lookout for 2 more mentors for the Indian team.

“The presence of Dhoni in the locker room was highly appreciated by our sponsors. The team and the fans also seemed to like it very much. What we decided is that we need two more mentors to help specifically with the toss. We have already shortlisted a close up magician who was a former participant at America’s Got Talent to help in tossing the coin and predicting how it will land. We are just working out the final details.”

“We are still on the lookout for an astrologer to help the Indian captain and the coach decide on calling the toss based on the day and horoscope of the rival captain, selection of players based on their stars and also for taking key decisions on the field like which bowler to target while batting and who would field at what position. Dhoni will continue to focus on the mentoring for DRS decisions”

We asked our source whether this was a suggestion of the current captain and coach and why these changes were being implemented now. She was quite surprised at the question but still was happy to tell us why.

“Kohli had announced his retirement before the start of the tournament and coach Ravi Shastri is also not being retained after the tournament. This meant that...
