Jeffrey V. Wells , Ph.D., is the science and policy director for the Boreal Songbird Initiative and a visiting research associate with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. From 1996-2003 Jeff was with the National Audubon Society, first as bird conservation director for the New York State office, then as the national director of bird conservation. Dr. Wells has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s leading bird experts and conservation biologists. Jeff received his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in ecology and evolutionary biology from Cornell University. He has authored or co-authored hundreds of scientific papers, book chapters, reports, op-eds, blogs, and popular articles on ecology, wildlife, and conservation. He is also the author of a number of books including Boreal Birds of North America: A Hemispheric View of Their Conservation Links and Significance, Birder’s Conservation Handbook: 100 North American Birds at Risk, Maine’s Favorite Birds, Important Bird Areas in New York State, and most recently, Birds of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao: A Site & Field Guide.
