You have probably experienced this before - the daunting opportunity of addressing an issue or admonishing a colleague. I really prefer the word admonish to a word like rebuke. Don’t you agree? For me, to admonish me is to expect better of me because you know I am better than what you are currently seeing in me. You want better for me, so much so, that you will firmly address this issue with me, and with the best of intentions. If you have never had to hold someone accountable for their words or actions, don’t worry Boss-Sister, that day will come soon enough, and you would do well to prepare accordingly. I have admonished other sisters and professionals, but more importantly, I have been admonished. I actually appreciate when I am admonished. So what does that look like - to admonish someone? I don’t have all the answers, but I do have experiences. As such, learn from me and take what is useful for your leadership journey. Holding others accountable is an important aspect of our influence as a leader.
