Be a Super Spreader—of Gratitude

Listen Later

As my husband says, gratitude spreads, so become a super spreader. We talked in the last couple of podcasts on gratitude that it has immense benefits for us personally, but it also has a beautiful, fulfilling ripple effect inside of us, and with others.

Excerpt from Grumpy to Grateful, Grow Your & Your Kids Grey Matter.

When Kids (Or Others) Won’t Do Must Do’s

Grumpy…

Do you have to cajole, bribe, demand, threaten, or manipulate in order to get your kids (or others) to do what needs to be done?

To Grateful…

Showing gratitude to your kids can improve their willingness to help over and above what we would generally expect by 50%.

As mentioned earlier, Harvard Health Publishing cites research from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania who had two groups do fund-raising. One group did it the way they always had in the past and the other group received a “pep talk” from the director who told the fund-raisers she was grateful for their efforts and that group made 50% more fund-raising calls.1

What this tells us is that a little bit of gratitude goes along way. “Thank you for doing the chores,” vs. “It’s about time you did the chores.” Change your language, and you change your effectiveness and relationships.
