The sermon on the mount probably covered several days of preaching, but it started with the Beatitudes. Jesus taught the Beatitudes to His disciples, he was trying to help them, the disciples, and us, get a snapshot of the shape of that new possibility that he came to offer us, the Kingdom of God.
