God has so many awesome things in store for us, His thoughts toward us are innumerable, (see Psalm 139) and His plans for us are good! (See Jeremiah 29:11)
However, as mentioned in the introduction, this brings us to our first if/then scenario. If we seek Him, we will find Him! If we humble ourselves, He will lift us up! (See Jeremiah 29:23 & 1 Peter 5:6)
Many of the things we will face during our journeys as believers have quite simple solutions. We just have to be willing to do them.
For example, before getting born again, or receiving our salvation, it was the Holy Spirit who convicted us of sin and showed us our need for a savior. It takes a simple act of humility on our part to say yes to that call and receive the gift that Jesus died to provide us, with eternal life!
After getting born again, it is the same Holy Spirit who then comes to live with us and in us, continually teaching, training, convicting, and pointing us to Jesus.
Each time He deals with our hearts on a matter, it will once again require a simple act of humility as a first step to receiving what He is trying to get to us and in us.
We will never outgrow the need to humble ourselves.
This is why the apostle Paul wrote, “I die daily.”
This is why Jesus told us to take up our cross daily and follow Him.
Daily dying to pride, to jealousy, to hate, to sinful desires, to selfishness, etc. These are the things that stop the blessing of God in our life and these are the things that the Holy Spirit will deal with each one of us about. Our first priority? To humble ourselves, recognizing we are poor in spirit, and in need of Him to fill us, teach us, and provide for us.
It is a lifelong journey, but one that should we learn to be humble, listen, and obey will reward us for all eternity!
