On a recent trip to India, Paul was amazed at the sight of an elderly man sweeping his shop stoop in the middle of one of the dirtiest parts of the city. It was a picture of excellence and futility! He was different, but he wasn't making a difference, because to change the course of culture, we've got to get to the source of culture. In Esther 8, we find that Esther and Mordecai are perfectly placed as far upstream as they needed to be in order to write laws that could make a difference for more than just themselves.
