The Apostle Peter closes his first letter with an exhortation to his fellow elders and the young men. They are to relate to one another in humility. It is in this immediate context that Peter issues his Devil alert alarm. The command is rooted in an immediate context as well as in the context of the whole letter.
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
