One of the recurring themes in the Bible is the holiness of God. he made every effort to show how different He was from other gods and cultures.

From the beginning, He desires His people to look like Him. He commands us to be holy as He is holy (Leviticus 11:44; 1 Peter 1:15-16)

Many people make the excuse that it's too difficult to carry this out in modern times. They either forget or don't realize that the Israelites were always in other cultures having to carry out God's commands of holiness.
