After dropping the Ten Words as the terms of His covenant with His people, God took Moses on the mountain to give him “the judgments.” This organized series of “cases” unpacked the Ten Words in a manner that the judges of Israel could rule in a way that represented God. In fact, these judgments were, in large measure, just that: a call to be like YHWH.
