What do you do when your present reality doesn’t necessarily align with where you imagined that your youthful hopes and dreams would take you? Did your college or vocational training set you up for what you are doing today? Have you gotten fixated on an ideal or expectation for what your life might look like or are you still looking for it? Do you ever find yourself more invested in the end goal or an achievement than you do the process or pursuit of it? Join Kellie and Claire as they discuss the dangers of over identifying with your roles and titles and offer suggestions for finding contentment in where you are both geographically and metaphorically.
Advice Not Given:
- Consider crafting a family mission statement.
- Don’t “JUST” anything in your life.
- Identify with your competencies and passions, not your title.
- Don’t let discontentment and “always” and “never” absolute statements become your inner monologue.
- Invest yourself more so in the process and reasons for doing something, rather than the results.
- Don’t be in the past or the future--be in the “IS” of today. Be present.
- Identify three physical (external, geographical) features of where you live. Focus on them and create a mini-mantra to repeat when you need to feel grounded in your outer world in order to remove the focus off of your inner turmoil.
