Stuck and Sinking! Jeremiah, the Prophet, needed a hero, somebody to come to his rescue. Jeremiah’s preaching of judgment had gotten him into trouble. His message was simple “surrender to Babylon and live or stay in Jerusalem and die (Jeremiah 38:2). Even when the Babylonians had left Jerusalem, Jeremiah said they would be back (Jeremiah 37:9). Now four (4) government officials had decided to take care of Jeremiah once and for all. With the king’s permission, they put him in a cistern and according to Lamentations 3:52-53 threw rocks down to kill him. Jeremiah’s predicament reminds me of so many today – Stuck and Sinking! Jobs lost. Businesses downsizing. Stores closing. Many are feeling STUCK – feeling trapped, can’t move forward. Others are sinking deeper into debt, deeper into depression. Since HEROES come in all shape, sizes and colors, BE THE HERO!
