While she followed breast cancer screening guidelines and went in yearly for her mammogram, Nancy Cappello was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer due to it being missed on standard mammography. Why? Because she had dense breasts. Following her diagnosis, she and her husband, Joe Cappello, made it their mission to change the standard of care for dense breast cancer screening. Unfortunately, Nancy passed away a few years ago following treatment for breast cancer, but her husband still works tirelessly advocating for legislation and new breast cancer screening technologies that work for women with dense breasts.
