BE#150: Learn to say NO! It might not work all the time but it does help, says our guest "Julia Arndt".

Listen Later

Our guest today "Julia Arndt" is a stress management trainer, sought-after international speaker, and the founder of the Peak Performance Method. She is a perpetual high performer— top of her class and having landed her “dream job” at Google. Long hours, long drive and too many cups of coffee later, she found herself experiencing burnout. She took her life experience and has created a unique model combining critical productivity, mindfulness and leadership tools to sustain a healthier balance in work lives.
She is passionate about helping high achievers reach sustainable performance.
In this episode we discuss:
- Her journey into mental health education and helping other people to manage stress and creating sustainable tools to avoid burnouts.
- "My mission today is really to help people not get there (burnout) in the first place and learn the tools needed earlier on in their career".
- At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what kind of structure or environment you are because you are the person that you are.
- There are peak performances that are disciplined, structured and strife to do greatness in this world and sometimes, it comes with its unhealthy habits around time management, setting boundaries, self care and so on.
- The first part is you create awareness around what is going on.
- Create or build new habits or routines.
- Our brains have learned over and over again to do certain things, certain patterns that are repeated several times.
- Usually, when we are trying to avoid burnouts, we have to pinpoint some things that are not really healthy.
- Your busy highway is your neuro collection.
-At the beginning when you are trying to build a new habit, when you are breaking through limiting beliefs, when you are thinking, - I'm just wired this way...it requires the right mindset to think "hey, I can actually do this if only I set my mind to it".
- We are almost priding ourselves by being super busy, super stressed out.
- The obvious problem these days with our society is that we are having too much stress that we are not aware of stress management.
- In general terms, we do need stress in order to perform, in order to produce the result that are productive in a day to day basis.
- Stress is good to a certain level and we can use it to our advantage when we are having a positive level of adrenaline.
- Sometimes when we work we are not really in line with our values which is why we might actually not feel intensely motivated to do the work that we do.
- Manage your time and set boundaries.
