Matt hails from Detroit, Michigan and is easily the happiest person in any given room. Matt began playing wheelchair basketball in 1998 when he was 14 years old, and he cannot remember a time when basketball wasn't everything to him. Clearly his disability didn't get in the way of his love for the game, and luckily he found friends who didn't treat him any different for being in a wheelchair. Game. On. Matt was on the Gold medal winning US Team 2007 and 2011 Parapan American Games and he has been nominated for Best Male Athlete with a disability ESPY Award. He also competed in the 2004 and 2008 summer Paralympics. Spina bifida has nothing on our friend Matt. Instead of holding him back, it propels him forward! And inspires thousands along the way.
