So I met Terra about 11 years ago at a fight gym I was working at; come to find out we also had some mutual friends. We've followed each others lives over the years on social media and I watched her get married and become a mother of two instantly. The biggest smile you've ever seen. I'll be honest…this was a hard story to be in front of. This one hit me and I'm taking a piece of this with me. I have a deep sense of empathy for Terra and what she's been through.
Terra was just a few days shy of her scheduled induction day when she noticed something unusual. It was 4 PM, and she realized that she couldn't feel the baby moving. Initially, she wasn't too concerned since she had a kick count schedule for later. However, she couldn't feel anything when she pressed her stomach, and it made her worry.
At this point, Terra's husband didn't think it was a big deal and suggested that she get some orange juice. He even ordered her favorite cheesecake. Terra tried pushing her stomach, but she still couldn't feel anything. So, she called her local hospital to seek medical attention. The hospital advised her to come in, and Terra packed her bags and car seat just in case. When she got to the hospital, the staff took her to the triage and did all the routine checks. However, when they put the monitor on, Terra saw the technician's face change because there was no heartbeat.
At this moment, Terra was in full shock, and it was the worst moment of her life. She called her husband hysterical, and when she saw him, she just cried. The doctors went into a meeting, and Terra felt that they didn't give her time to process before moving on to the next steps.
From a health perspective, there were always risks of infections, and they had to deliver the baby. Terra initially thought that she would have a C-section since she didn't want to go through another 18-hour labor. However, the doctor advised that delivering the baby vaginally would be better since a C-section would be more complicated.
The labor was intense, and Terra remembered that she was thinking about all the things that she would do with her baby once they were home. Unfortunately, she never got to experience that.
Losing a child is a traumatic experience, and it can take a while to come to terms with it. However, Terra had a supportive family that helped her through the process. She also started seeing a therapist to help her cope with the loss.
Terra's story shows that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes things don't go according to plan. Losing a child is never easy, but it's essential to seek support and know that it's okay not to be okay. It's crucial to talk to someone, seek professional help, and take all the time you need to heal. Terra's story is a reminder that we should cherish every moment with our loved ones because life is precious.
