Fame is dumb... there I said it!

Fame, stardom and celebrity tarnish the soul and the quality of this thing called the human experience.

It tends to corrupt and lead people to become something that is not in line with their true nature.

One way I mentally combat this phenomenon is to remember the human behind it.

My method is unusual, but it works.

I used to be terrified of the gym.

Terrified of physical fitness, hard work, delaying gratification and let's face it... gym bros.

In recent years I have seen fitness as my friend.

Something that can challenge me physically, and in turn harden my mentally.

There are going to be things in your day to day life that simply do not warrant a reaction.

In the quote at the top, Epictetus famously referred to every situation having 2 handles.

One that can carry the load and one that cannot.

There will always be justification to involve yourself in every dispute, argument, disagreement, fight or melee.

But do you have to?

Everyday we are given the opportunity to apply our principles.

Marcus Aurelius said... "The model for application of your principles is the boxer rather than the gladiator. The gladiator puts down or takes up the sword he uses, but the boxer always has his hands and needs only to clench them into fists.”

You are not forced to be good, but how you show up in the world will ultimately govern how people see you and the quality of your life.

Stoicism demands that you do not put down your principles.

I spent a large portion of my life as an anxious, underachieving boy with low self-confidence.

In the last few years I have been able to achieve something that I am very proud of... I have learned how to become my own best friend.

What do I mean by that?

I mean that regardless of where I am or what I am doing, I am supportive and positively reinforcing myself.

Like a good best friend should.

I’ve been on a journey in recent years.

From hating myself and avoiding stepping into my power, to healing myself and facing life’s challenges head on.

It’s been taxing, but oh so rewarding.

Stoicism is one tool that I have used as I have begun the rebuild of my life.

The great stoic wisdom imparted from Marcus, Epictetus and Seneca have an ancient weight behind it that is hard to refute.

This podcast and this writing is my attempt to distill some of the stoic ideas that I have used on my journey so far.
