Coming home to yourself is remembering who you already are. This week Grace and I ask what it means to come home to yourself, and how you find your way back when you have drifted.
At the end of my marriage I had no idea who I was, what I liked, or what I wanted. Rediscovering that was my first trip home, and I have made the trip many times since. Two Marches ago Grace sat at an event in Mexico with her journal open and realized she did not know who she was either. She told a friend she was having an identity crisis. Her friend said, "Words matter. You are having an identity awakening."
Together we get into how you start to sound like the people you spend your time with, the three steps I use to come back to myself (awareness, choice, change), why everyone wants change and few people want to change, what shifted when Grace admitted she was doing the work and secretly did not believe she could have what she wanted, and why calm felt wrong to her body after years in fight or flight.
Grace's one thing: you remember who you are, and there are many ways to remember. Dancing, singing, talking, the people you love. Mine: awareness, choice, change. You choose when you change, how much you change, and whether you change at all.
The question for the week: what is one thing you would do to come home to yourself, and do you believe you can have it?
New episodes every Tuesday. If this one sounded like your life, send it to someone who needs to hear it.
