Bees Love Saussureas!

Listen Later

Okay, that was close- I had the video finished/saved when I realised I had the wrong species name on it...lol Luckily the video editor was still open and I just had to change the text there and render it again!

Saussurea riederi is a plant from alpine slopes in East Asia. It has thrived (arguably a little too well... I now have to pull lots where it has spread a bit too much on the low berm I planted it on-it would probably be better in a meadow setting with other strong growers and maybe a mowed area next to it to keep it in check.. Anyway, it is much loved by native bees including various kinds of bumblebees and leafcutters (as have been all the Saussurea I've grown).
