Non-musical history for today: 1914 – In New York City, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers was established to protect the copyrighted musical compositions of its members. While that is “musical” in the broadest of senses, it’s really a protection and rights function and not necessarily “musical.” I have been a member of ASCAP. I don’t know that I still am.
