Non-musical history for today: 1983 – The International Olympic Committee restored Jim Thorpe's Olympic medals to his family. He lost the titles after it was found he had been paid for playing two seasons of semi-professional baseball before competing in the Olympics, thus violating the contemporary amateurism rules (which have since been abolished). He had still been listed as co-champion in decathlon and pentathlon after being stripped, and it wasn't until 2022 that the IOC restored him as the sole champion in those events.
Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for January 18.
Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza.
